One way we thought we might be able to reign in some of the construction costs was by selecting our materials and coming in under the allowances in the budget. We spent three days traipsing all over Denver to meet with one vendor after another to select plumbing fixtures, appliances, doors, stone, and so much more. Dan helped schedule back to back meetings with most of their vendors. It felt like an episode of the amazing race. We’d meet with one vendor, become overwhelmed with all the choices, make as many selections as possible before our time was up, and then move on to the next vendor to do it all over again. However, there was no prize money at the end – in most cases we didn’t even know how much our selections were adding up to. We’ll have to wait a few weeks for them to submit the costs back to Dan.
